What happens after receiving hair transplants?

After the procedure, you may have some redness, tenderness, or swelling on your scalp. Follow your provider’s instructions if you’d like to take over-the-counter pain relievers. 

Your scalp then begins to form scabs during the healing process. Avoid picking at the scabs, which usually fall off within about two weeks. Avoid washing your scalp, wearing hats, or participating in strenuous physical activity until your specialist gives you permission to do so.

You can expect hair from transplanted follicles to fall out over the next few weeks and months, during which time your hair could appear thinner. However, after 6-12 months of regrowth, you experience the full effects of a hair transplant (fuller, thicker hair).
